One person’s definition of success can be completely different from the next person’s perspective. The criteria someone associates with success tends be based off what they perceive as valuable. Value can be based on freedom to do what you like, having a lot of money, having a piece of mind – whatever you believe adds importance to your life.
Therefore, wouldn’t success increase your value?
Success is a word that entrepreneurs love to speak about, but how many of those preaching about success are achieving real success?
Even amongst entrepreneurs, there is a separation of those who are achieving great accomplishments consistently, and those who are struggling to get by. This separation is due to the focus on achieving results. Yes, success is a mindset, but a thought without actions is useless. You can think about success all you want, but if you are not putting in the strategic work to produce results, you are simply wasting time.
The world is full of average people
An average mindset and average actions don’t attract success, they repel success. The average person doesn’t understand this though. For them, constantly talking about success will magically make success appear in their life. They operate on hope, instead of focusing on working hard through persistent hustle. It is a perplexing way to think but average people behave in this manner.
If you look around you, you will notice that the world is full of average people. They are content with being entertained and just getting by in life. They will talk about wanting a life that is full of purpose when looking at successful people, but they don’t really mean what they say.
Talking is a form of therapy for average people. It puts exciting images in their head, but these are only wishful thoughts. Wishful thinking does not produce an accompanying reality. Wishing for $1,000,000 and thinking about how your life would be so great to have it is what average people do.
Why wish for money? You have opportunity in the world to actually make the money you want. Average people just don’t want to work hard for what they desire. They rather have things given to them because they deserve nice things.
The problem with average people is that they don’t have the drive to pursue the opportunities around them. Excuses rule their existence. There is always an excuse as to why something cannot be done.
That is too hard.
I’m not lucky enough.
I wasn’t born rich.
I’m not good enough.
I don’t even know where to start.
Average people defeat themselves before they even attempt to do something outside of their comfort zone. The limiting beliefs they have about themselves is their ceiling for potential, and it is a very low ceiling they place themselves under. No matter how much day dreaming they do about success, their life is stuck in a cycle of mediocrity because they have conditioned themselves to accept it as their place in life.
Being content in life and accepting the minimum that life has to offer is the downfall of average people. If they truly recognized all that life had to offer, they would actually strive to accomplish more in their life. While they see others living a life full of opportunity and purpose, they just can’t comprehend such a reality in their life.

How to tell if you are an average person
The topic of discussion has been average people, but what about yourself? Are you an average person? Are you reading this questioning your own life, wondering if you fit the description that has been described?
What does your normal day consist of? Do you wake up, go to a job you hate, come back home to just eat and watch tv, and do it all over again? If so, you are an average person, your life revolves around a schedule of mediocrity.
You are that person who is always wishing for better but you never change yourself in order to produce a better life for yourself. All you do is complain and wonder why can’t you be one of those lucky successful people.
It’s not your fault that your life is the way it is.
Nobody recognizes your brilliance, or you have come to the conclusion that you were just dealt the wrong hand in life.
You’ll show them one day.
These are the lies you tell yourself in order to not make yourself look bad.
When is it going to actually be your fault that your life is the way it is? You are going to have to finally take accountability for your actions if you want to turn your life around.
Successful people are focused on continued improvement
What separates a successful person from an average person?
A successful person understands that life is a continued process, while the average person views life as just being so. Just being so means that the life they experience has been given to them.
This is a pessimistic way to view life. It says that you don’t believe that you have the ability to be in control of your life. That is a sad existence to live within – not being the one who controls your life.
Successful people are on a constant mission to control their life, and provide themselves with the experiences that they desire.
That is what life is made up of – experiences. Successful people understand that their experiences are determined by their thoughts and actions. Therefore, they strive to make their life a constant progression of improvement.
Who are some successful people that you look up to? How do they view success? What are some of the things that they say they did in order to become successful?
If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
Michael Jordan
If you are born poor its not your mistake, But if you die poor its your mistake.
Bill Gates
Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.
Warren Buffet
In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.
Tony Robbins
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure… than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
Theodore Roosevelt
What do all these quotes by these highly successful people have in common?
They view success as a journey, not just something that randomly happens. There is no coincidences when it comes to achieving success. It is produced by having focus on proving to yourself that you can be better than your past and present. You have to be in constant competition with yourself, demanding yourself to improve everyday.
Many successful people are gifted with natural talent, but those talents wouldn’t be able to flourish without them dedicating hours to improving their natural talents. The world is full of talented people, but their potential is never reached because they choose to rely on talents rather than hard work.
Nothing in this world is given to you. Successful people determine what they want, develop a strategy of actions to take, and go after their goals until they are accomplished – no matter the challenges and roadblocks.
Even when a certain level of success is achieved, being content is not an option for successful people. There is always more to do, more to learn, more challenges to pursue, more experiences to have.

How to become successful
The first step to becoming successful is changing your mindset and behavior. Your mind is what influences the actions you take, so you need to have an opportunistic outlook on life. You have to want more and develop the behavior that will help you produce a life of success.
Don’t expect overnight results. Almost every successful person went through many failures and low points in their life, but they pushed forward because they believed in themselves no matter the challenging circumstances they endured – success was their only option.
Set goals, write your goals down, view your goals everyday, and analyze your progression. Wake up in the morning with the purpose of working towards success. Make it constant reminder that you must achieve success – it has to be an obsession that constantly runs through your head. Eliminate all distractions that take away your focus, eliminate all excuses and work hard, while working smart.
The only person that can hold you back is yourself. Stop looking at successful people, wondering why they get to live the life that they live. Instead make success a motivating factor that governs your life.
